Russian Revolution I. Dissatisfaction with the King
1. By 1917 the Russian people had turned against the war.
A. Poor training/fighting techniques/leadership
B. 2 million dead and 4 million injured II. Grigori Rasputin
1. Considered by Alexandra to be a holy man
2. Helped aid in the ruling of Russia while Nicholas II was out an the front lines.
3. The Russian people soon equaled Rasputin with the war.
A. Killed by the people in 1916. III. March Revolution
1. Strikes in Petrograd.
A. Lead by angry women.
B. Starts because of increased bread prices.
2. Eventually Nicholas stepped downward and Kerensky took control f the
new provincial
government.
3. A new force challenging their authority… the soviets.
*Soviets= councils composed of Representatives of workers and soldiers. IV. October Revolution
1. A group of Soviets was led by V.I. Lenin (Bolsheviks).
A. Still dissatisfied with the current Russian government.
2. Lenin leads the Russian Soviets in a Marxist Revolution.
3. Lenin signs a Peace Treaty with Germany (Treaty of Brest- Livotsk)
* Russian decision to drop out of the war helped get the US involved.
