The Second Industrial Revolution

I. The Second Industrial Revolution.

1. New products included : steel, chemicals, electricity, and oil.

A. Steel production really set off allowing for the development of many new improved industries, und rail road.

B. Electricity also really helped by allowing homes and factories the chance to operate on a single power source.

2. Other new inventions

A. Light bulbs- (Edison and Swan)

B. Telephone- (Bell)

C. Radio- (Marconi)

D. Subways and Streets

E. 24 Hour Factories

F. Internet- combustion engines (cars, planes, and ocean liners)

3. Increased sales equal increased production equals increased wages

A. New choices for consumers

1. Department Stores.

2. Amusement parks

4. The haves and have nots

A. North and West Europe prospered.

B. South and East Europe remained poor.

II. Organizing the Working Class
