War of Austrian Succession (1740)

 

I. War of Austrian Succession

            1. Although the philosophes condemned war that did not prevent some of Europes most powerful countries of nearly two decades of combat.

            2. In 1740, Maria Tersa becomes the leader of the Hapsburg dynasty.

                        A. Prussians under Frederick the Great, and take from Austria, Silesia.

                        B. France, also uses this time to attack.

                                    1. Take Holland

                                    2. Trying to take overseas land.

            3. This breaks out in to a full war.

                        A. Prussia and France allied together.

                        B. Austria and Great Britain ally together.

            4. The war last eight years, with not winner.

            5. Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle (1748)

                        A. Ends the war

                        B. All lands are returned to their original owners except Prussia gets Silesia.

            6. Austria is upset with the situation and wants their land back.

                        A. This opens the door for future problems.

II. In Between Wars

            1. Austria wants to break up France and Prussian alliance.

                        A. Austria creates a new ally pact with France and Russia.

                        B. Prussian and Britain ally.

            2. Diplomatic Revolution of 1756.

                        A. When countries re-align.

            3. With the terms formed the countries are preparing for war.

III. Seven Year War (French and Indian War)

            1. Fought in Europe, Asia, and North America.

                        A. Europe

                                    1. Prussia gets the early lead.

                                    2. The Franco-Austor-Russian alliance holds up over time.

                                                A. Eventually they start to win.

                                                B. Peter III pulls his Russian troops out from Prussian even though they were winning.

                                    3. In the end really no clear winner.

                        B. India

                                    1. Primarily between France and Great Britain.

                                                A. Great Britain wins because of persistence.

                        C. North America

                                    1. Primarily between France and Britain.

                                    2. Land of St. Lawrence River and Ohio River

                                    3. Indians see Great Britain an threat.   

                                                A. Indians ally with the French.

                                    B. Britain gives Florida to Spain through France.

                                    C. France gives Spain Louisiana.

 

*Britain is the greatest winner, Prussian came in after them with some gain. The Russia was next with not losing basically. Austria lost is the best way to put it. Then there is France who the biggest loser of them all.
