Hittes: located in Asia Minor currently Turkey.

Phoenicians: Located on the eastern shore of the Meditterean Sea.

1.) A sea fairing people

2.) Biggest trade post set up is Carthage (became a major city in the world, current location is Tunis, Tunisia.

3.) Created the alphabet that evolves into our modern langauges.

4.) Stick to themselves mostly, are like the Swiss a very neutral and peacefull people.

 

Isrealites: Located just below the Phoenicians

  1. Existed as one one country for a long time
  2. Reached its peak under King Solomon.
  3. Brokeup into 2 countries, Kingdom of Judah, and Kindgom of Isreal.
  4. Assyrians come and take over Isereal
    1. 10 lost tribes
  5. Judah gets taken over by the Chaldeans.
  6. Strenghted their religious beliefs
    1. becomes more universal
  7. Perisans allow Israelite to return to their land
    1. allowed to exist on their own.
  8. Monothestic
    1. first group to believe in one God.

Assyrians: (700-600 B.C.)

  1. based in Northern Mesopotima
  2. First terrorist group
    1. destroyed everything in thier path
  3. first library used a lot of record keeping
  4. Strong dynastic rule for their duration
  5. Bery professional army
  6. Taken out of power by the Chaldeans

Perians: (Iran)

  1. Perisans ride to power under Cryus "the Great"
    1. taking over the places by 539 B.C. they become dominat power.
    2. gentle ruler- other people respect that
  2. Cambyses: tries to exapnd the emprie
  3. Darius follows him to power
    1. sets up 20 Satraps
      1. ruled a Satrapy
    2. sets up the Royal Road
  4. They had a huge Army (Immortal )
    1. Infantry of 10,000 men
    2. Special army elite forces of 10,000 men
    3. never loses (not until later when they fight the Greeks and they lose.
